Looking positively Glee-ful as she left her pampering session with a huge smile on her face, the musical theatre star went from drab to fab in just a matter of hours.

The brunette beauty had dressed down for her salon visit, perhaps choosing to hide her Christmas overindulgence behind a loose-fitting blue checked shirt, which she teamed with black skinny jeans and heeled boots.

Lea completed her look with a pair of aviator sunglasses and a black leather shoulder bag, as her doting dad ferried her around in a giant silver Range Rover.

Pregnant teacher, 33, gives birth after fleeing burglars repeatedly ram into her car

28 12 2012

A pregnant teacher gave birth after her car was repeatedly rammed by burglars trying to flee her home.

Ceri Fiddes, 33, had already gone into labour but was discharged from hospital and told to go home and wait for a few hours.

But when her and her partner Daniel Holley arrived back at their home in Stoney Stratton near Shepton Mallett, Somerset, they were met by a burglar coming out of the house and another one in the garden.

Despite Daniel’s brave attempts to tackle the thieves, one of them jumped into his car and started repeatedly reversing into Ceri’s car – with her still sat helplessly inside.

The thieves were eventually able to make their getaway.

Once the police had left the couple’s home later that evening, she returned to hospital and gave birth to her son Jude.

Ceri said: ‘There was a car in the drive and a man coming out of our house.

‘When my husband got out to accost him the burglar jumped in the car and rammed ours, with me in it.

‘That was the worst bit, he just kept reversing into me.’

The burglars had ransacked the couple’s home but only took possessions from the shed – items which were later recovered by police.

Officers from Avon and Somerset Police sent out a helicopter and got the alleged burglars’ DNA profile from the car.

Thoughts with gang-rape victim, no Happy New Year for Congress

28 12 2012

New Delhi, Dec 28:

A young gang-rape victim struggling to stay alive occupied the Congress’ mindspace on its foundation day Friday with party president Sonia Gandhi joining Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in promising quick justice and saying there would be no Happy New Year greetings for them.

Both the prime minister and the Congress president spoke out on the Dec 16 gang-rape and torture of a trainee physiotherapist, now battling for life in a Singapore hospital.

“You have my assurance that our government is committed to bringing the guilty to justice as soon as possible,” the prime minister told reporters here. The best possible medical care was being provided to the victim, he added.

Wishing the woman speedy recovery, Gandhi said no time should be lost in punishing those responsible for the crime.

The two leaders were addressing the media at the Congress headquarters here after Gandhi hoisted the party flag on the occasion of its foundation day.

“Our wish is that she recovers and comes back to us… and no time is lost in bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice,” Gandhi said in her first public statement on the 23-year-old who was brutally tortured and raped by a gang of males in a moving bus in the national capital.

Gandhi said the party was not celebrating New Year due to the sad event.

“Dec 28 is close to New Year. Normally we wish each other but not so this time as our thoughts are with the young woman fighting for her life after a barbarous attack on her,” she said.

“We share the anguish of the country over this crime,” said the prime minister.

He said a panel headed by a former chief justice of the Supreme Court had been set up to suggest changes in the law to make punishment more stringent, and another headed by a former Delhi high court judge to look into the lapses behind the ghastly crime.

Stating that “Dec 28 is the foundation day of the Indian National Congress”, Gandhi said: “On this day, we remember the freedom fighters who got us free from the British.”
